John H. Northrop

Executive Director

John retired from the military in 1998, and in June 2001 founded JHNA. As the Executive Director of JHNA, he is responsible for oversight of the operations, business development, administrative, and financial management of the firm, as well as directing marketing and business strategy development efforts.

John graduated from West Point in 1972, and served in a variety of command and staff positions during a 26-year Army career. Operational tours were with the 82d Airborne (twice) and 25th Infantry Divisions. Staff Tours included teaching Organic Chemistry at West Point; serving as a Program Analyst and, later, Aide to General Max Thurman at TRADOC; and on the Joint Staff, where he helped institute the new JWCA and JCIDS processes. His last assignment was as a Division Chief on the Army Staff, DCSOPS (DAMO-FDJ) where he worked for the VCSA on JROC matters. His military schooling includes Officer Basic and Advanced Course, Command and General Staff, and National War Colleges. His skills and qualifications include Artillery Master Gunner, Ranger and Master Parachutist. His Graduate Degree is from Georgia Tech. He and his wife Mary live in Burke, Virginia. They have three sons, Ian, Jason and Jan.
