Services: SIN 871-1
Strategic Planning For Technology Programs/Activities
The US GSA Schedule defines the services listed under SIN 871-1 as, "The definition and interpretation of high-level organizational engineering performance requirements such as projects, systems, missions, etc., and the objectives and approaches to their achievement. Typical associated tasks include, but are not limited to an analysis of mission, program goals and objectives, requirements analysis, organizational performance assessment, special studies and analysis, training, privatization and outsourcing."
JHNA brings a wealth of experience and expertise in this service area by providing requirements analysis support to systems engineering processes. The company is adept at taking customer needs and translating them into a set of requirements that define what a system must do and how well it must do it.
JHNA analyzes user community documents such as Capability Development Documents (CDDs). Company consultants then apply that input to the intended operating environment in order to determine the business problem to be solved based on customer provided measures of effectiveness. Requirements analysis is conducted iteratively with functional analysis to optimize performance requirements for identified functions, and to verify that synthesized solutions can satisfy customer requirements.
Using accepted engineering practices, JHNA skillfully analyzes the missions and environments to identify functional requirements. The company produces a set of performance and design constraint requirements ready for peer review and support systems engineering throughout the design and analysis phases by refining those requirements. This iterative process of constantly revisiting requirements permits reconsideration of how the system will function and helps optimize a design solution. JHNA further decomposes requirements to lower level functions for allocation and is able to assist in defining functional interfaces. Because our company brings an in depth knowledge of the Department of Defense Technical Reference Model and Joint Technical Architecture, we are able to ensure requirements are aligned with the terms, definitions and standards contained in those documents. We are then able to integrate those requirements into functional architecture in accordance with various architecture frameworks.
Known for results, JHNA is able to produce System Performance Specifications conforming to appropriate standards such as MIL-STD 961E. JHNA has provided expert systems engineering support in the form of requirements and system performance specification to companies such as General Dynamics C4 Systems, General Dynamics Robotics Systems, and Perceptek. Additionally, we have supported the writing of Systems Engineering Management Plans and other systems engineering documents such as safety and logistics plans.
In summary, JHNA refines customer objectives and requirements, defines performance objectives into requirements, and identifies and defines constraints. Our work results in a clear understanding of what the system has to do, how well the functions have to be performed, and the interfaces necessary for the environment in which the system will have to operate. The requirements and performance specifications we produce are understandable, unambiguous, complete, concise and verifiable. The understandings that come from our requirements analysis establish the basis for the functional and physical designs to follow throughout the Systems Engineering process.
